The LACE Lab is a research group at DePauw University in the Psychology and Neuroscience Department. Our aim, broadly, is to explore and understand how stigmatized minority groups define their identity as well as navigate social interactions. We are particularly interested in conducting research with women and members of the LGBTQIA+ and BDSM communities. We integrate concepts of identity, personality, stigma, and intersectionality in our work to explore the unique experiences of these populations. Our ultimate goal is to use our findings to educate the scientific community at large by correcting misconceptions and destigmatizing gender and sexual diversity. With better representation and greater acceptance, we can improve the well-being of stigmatized populations in social, clinical, and legal settings.

Our lab is currently recruiting participants for a study entitled "2D:4D Ratio and Individual Differences among Dominants and submissives." The purpose of this study is to investigate whether individual differences in the 2D:4D ratio can predict variation in personality, risk-taking, sensation-seeking, and D/s power play roles, among a sample of BDSM practitioners. Specifically, we are seeking adult, English-speaking, U.S. residents who identify as either Dominant OR submissive power players (no switches yet, so sorry!). At our vendor table, interested individuals will scan a QR code to complete a quick eligibility survey. Then they will photocopy/scan their hands on our printer so we can measure the lengths of their fingers later. Finally, participants will complete a second (take-home) survey in which they provide basic demographic information, answer questions about BDSM/kink involvement, and complete personality, risk-taking, and sensation-seeking questionnaires. All data will be kept confidential, and we will follow the approved IRB protocol on file.

The LACE Lab table will also be supplied with study flyers, give-aways, and some printed copies of our published works. Event attendees are welcome to stop by to ask questions about the study or just chat about research. We have several other projects in mind, so feel free to connect with us!
